π CodeBuddy Code v2.161.0 Release β
π¦ Version Information β
| Component | Version |
|---|---|
| CodeBuddy Code CLI | v2.161.0 |
| Agent SDK JS | v0.3.269 |
| Agent SDK Python | v0.3.268 |
β¨ New Features β
Persistent Context Usage Display β
Added a configuration for a persistent context usage display, enabled via the CODEBUDDY_SHOW_CONTEXT_USAGE environment variable, so you always know how much context remains in the current conversation.
/btw Side Questions β
Side questions are fully isolated from the main session and retain recent history. Both the TUI and WebUI support browsing history, quick switching, copying, and clearing, and you can upgrade a side question to a background task with tools in one click, so you can ask and work at the same time without interrupting each other.
/web Command β
Added the /web command, which opens the current session's Web UI in the default browser. Hosts without a Web UI address (no loopback / remote sessions) only show that it is unavailable and do not open a browser.
Per-Turn Credit Usage in the Web UI β
After each conversation turn ends, the bottom of the reply shows the total credits consumed in that turn (including subagents and image and video generation). It remains viewable after refreshing the page or opening historical sessions.
Clear Guidance When Custom Model Configuration Is Missing β
When a local custom model is missing its endpoint URL or API Key, requests are no longer sent to the provider endpoint. Instead, error code 4100 is returned directly with a "Go to configuration" prompt. Previously, a missing API Key caused requests to be sent with account credentials and misreported as "invalid key", presenting a configuration issue as an authentication issue. Models pointing to a local loopback address (such as local Ollama) never required an API Key and are unaffected.
π§ Improvements β
- More stable restore of long-history sessions: Session restore now applies adaptive rate limiting based on output backlog, preventing out-of-memory errors caused by replaying images and large attachments, while maintaining batch output performance in normal consumption scenarios.
- Timely release of file watching and background subscriptions: After a Web UI page is closed or disconnected, background resources such as file watching and process output subscriptions are released properly. Writing many files to the workspace at once no longer causes memory spikes or unresponsiveness.
π Bug Fixes β
- No more false empty-stream detection after model interruption: Fixed an issue where, if the model had already output partial content and an upstream error followed immediately, with both chunks happening to arrive together, the already-output content was discarded entirely and repeatedly retried as "no output at all", eventually showing "Upstream returned an empty stream". Output content is now preserved and generation continues from the point of interruption.
/rewindno longer blocked by files outside the workspace: After writing files outside the workspace during a session (such as drafts in a temp directory),/rewindnow skips those files instead of failing entirely, and rollback of files inside the workspace proceeds as usual. When rollback fails, the panel shows the reason without losing the input box content.- Server file and network rule approvals: Fixed Read, Write, and Edit in the Harness waiting indefinitely without showing approvals. Cancellation only cleans up the request it belongs to, and late authorizations are not carried into the next turn.
- Write / Edit overwrite failures with file security enabled: Fixed the Server's native dependency wiring missing the sandbox backup channel. Newly created files are also correctly registered for backup.
- Permissions preserved in Server Plan mode: The session's original permissions are retained when entering Plan and the original mode is restored on exit. Regular tool approvals can pass reusable session rules to the host, and Defer approvals show the actual target tool.
- Consistent session-level MCP tool descriptions: The ToolSearch catalog for session-level MCP reuses short descriptions, consistent with the global MCP catalog.
- Plain text starting with a skill name no longer triggers it by mistake: Previously, entering plain text that started with the name of an installed skill but without a slash was misidentified as a skill command, so the model received the full skill text instead of the user's original words. Now skill expansion is triggered only when
/skill-nameis entered explicitly. - Web UI link at the top of the TUI: The current session id is no longer appended; the configured Web UI address is shown directly.
- Web UI agent selection no longer overwritten across agents: When switching between multiple agents, permission mode and model selection are preserved separately for each, and selections in subagents no longer overwrite the global default permissions.
- Faster Web UI source control refresh: Changes are now pushed as they happen, refreshing within about 0.4 seconds after file changes, commits, or branch switches, and the repository is no longer repeatedly scanned when nothing has changed. Also fixed display issues with paths containing spaces or non-ASCII characters and with staged renamed files.
- Windows auto-upgrade no longer hangs: Fixed auto-upgrade frequently failing while CodeBuddy Code was open, which could leave the installation incomplete so that subsequent commands hung and required a restart. If the installation is still incomplete, commands now fail immediately and fall back to the regular execution path.
